Helix Custom – Redwood burl

This Helix has a 1.5″ slim body profile and a medium slim neck. It has a deep cutaway that allows unencumbered access to the highest frets. Like all of my builds this guitar has had an extensive setup including full fret level and dressing.

The neck has a thin & comfortable C profile and is made from figured maple with a mahogany stringer up the center.  The neck transitions into the body with a smooth taper thats hard for your hand to notice. It’s topped off with an 12″ radius black ebony fret board with mother of pearl fret markers and ever lasting gobstopper stainless steel frets. Yeah, you’re not going to be needing another fret dress for a while.

The top is a stunning piece of stabilized & hardened Redwood burl with a gentle shallow carve and grain that defies description. Its finished in hand rubbed Nitrocellulose lacquer with a subtle tinted burst.

The electronics are rounded out with smooth turning CTS potentiometers and an orange drop capacitor nestled inside of a fully shielded electronic cavity for noise free operation.

The cavity cover is painstakingly taken from the upper layers of the body blank and the covermatches the body grain near perfectly. The result is almost seamless. Its firmly attached with powerful neodymium magnets instead of screws as not to distract from its beauty.  The process takes quite a lot of extra time but the results speak volumes.  The cover can be removed with the provided magnetic removal tool and won’t accidentally become dislodged by metal objects like belt buckles. Likewise, the truss rod cover is secured with neodymium instead of screws for easy access and a streamlined look. You can see the cover function here:

The body is black Limba with uniform grain lines topped with a very cool redwood burl carved top thats been properly hardened and stabilized. Its finished natural a modest dark burst in Nitrocellulose lacquer that comes alive in direct light. All of my guitars ship with a standard hard case.
