There’s no CNC machine in my shop.
Don’t get me wrong, I think CNC machines are great and I might someday utilize one, but for now everything in my shop is done old school using just my two hands and some sharp tools. There’s no CNC machine in my shop.
There are two reasons for this. The first is that I make a limited number of instruments per a year and at this time I simply don’t have a need for automated equipment. The second reason is that the time I spend sitting down with a sharp tool and carving contours into an instrument is one of the most relaxing and rewarding things I can think of and its one of my favorite stage of a build. I’m not going to sit here and tell you its some kind of religious experience but it really is a gratifying task. The carving process is when the shape of each guitar really comes into its own. Its one of the things that makes each guitar I make unique.
